ESTIMATING VACCINATION UPTAKE

This tool comprises an online calculator in which several disease and vaccination characteristics need to be specified to estimate the expected vaccination uptake for various disease outbreaks with various vaccination programmes.

BACKGROUND

This tool is based on the work that was conducted within work package 5 (Acceptance of preventive measures in epidemic outbreaks across Europe: a discrete choice experiment) of the E-com@eu project. To assess the trade-offs people make between disease and vaccination characteristics, a discrete choice experiment was conducted in four European countries (the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, and Sweden). The results were used to construct the vaccination uptake calculator.
For more information on the study see WP5.

HOW TO USE THE TOOL

In order to calculate the expected vaccination uptake for a specific outbreak scenario, both disease and vaccine characteristics need to be specified in the tool. The disease characteristics that need to be specified are number of people getting sick, and percentage of people getting severe symptoms. The vaccine characteristics that need to be specified are effectiveness of vaccination, out-of-pocket costs of vaccination, safety, advice regarding vaccination, and media coverage about vaccination. If the appropriate form fields are specified, press the ‘calculate’ button to estimate the expected vaccination uptake in the four countries for the specified scenario.
